The Best Pet Care in Town (Toronto that is)

Princess MarshmallowSir Patchy-Patch Baily

What to do with Caramel and Sundae? We were recently in a quandary about who could take care of our beloved guinea pigs!   Late one night (isn’t that when one finally does these things?) I figured this problem could be solved, and went about searching for someone nearby that would look after our pets at reasonable cost.  What a treasure I found with Char-Bear Pet Care!  We highly recommend them for their warm and loving approach to pet care, especially for hamsters, fish, guinea pigs and rabbits, and their rates are more than reasonable.  Your pet will be in the good company of their own adorable rabbits, Sir Patchy-Patch Baily and Princess Marshmallow, as well as Jack the Beta Fish, as well as other pets who are having their vacation chez Char-Bear!harbearpetcare@hotmail.com

It’s the Year of the Bunny!

You can easily amuse yourself and myriad children NOISELESSLY with noiseless noisemakers! (Truth be told, I am not sure if the whistle got left out of our package or what, but these ones don’t whistle!)

We cut out a little bunny from origami paper (but any thin-ish paper will do) and stuck it on the end of the blower with a bit of tape.  Toot on it and out pops the bunny to wish you a Happy Chinese New Year!

A mysterious sign appeared in my coffee last week….

A short dissertation on this week’s Clangers episode

Plots of The Clangers programs never fail to amaze me. Take for example, the serpentine synopsis for this week’s episode, The Rock Collector, available for viewing through Wednesday April 28):

“The seismometer beacon or whatever it was the astronaut left begins to mutter to itself in astronauts’ jargon and flash a light. The Clangers are puzzled by this. They hear noise and hide as a lunar module comes down. They watch the astronaut climb out. He has a basket and is collecting rocks One rock is hard to loosen. He puts down the basket while he returns to the craft to collect a pick or something. While his back is turned Small Clanger reaches out from under a lid and whips the basket. They wonder what they can give him to take home that is more interesting than old rocks. They fill the basket with lovely soggy blue-string pudding. The astronaut finished loosening the rock and turns to pick up his basket. It isn’t there but as he turns to look around for it the Clangers lift a lid and put the basket out. The astronaut takes the basket back to his module and climbs in, shutting the trapdoor. We hope he likes blue-string pudding. The astronaut’s backchat that has been coming out of the seismometer thing sudden goes squawky and the trapdoor blasts open showering basket and blue-string. Apparently he didn’t like blue-string pudding. The astronaut is puzzled and hunts around. He lifts a lid and comes face to face with Tiny Clanger who greets him civilly. The astronaut ‘activates emergency evasive procedures’ and runs away. He trips and falls into a hole. He rolls through a cave and come face to face with the froglets who laugh at him joyfully. This calls for more evasive procedures and he runs towards the soup-wells where the soup-dragon meets him and causes him to fall head-first into a soup-well. The Clangers lower a rope and haul him out into the open. He is very soupy. They whistle up the cloud who rains on the astronaut as they scrub him with brooms. Major Clanger looks in through the astronaut’s face window and frightens him even more. This time his evasive procedures cause him to run so fast he runs into orbit and sails squawking round the planet. The Clangers fetch their rod and magnet and cast for him. They bring him down and without further ado stuff him back into his module. After a while it sets itself up and blasts off for home.”

If you actually watch the episode, it all makes sense.

Time to thank the definitive Clanger’s episode guide, CliveBanks.co.uk, for this synopsis as well as details on all 26 Clangers episodes. A very thorough guy, Clive also explains that the voices of The Clangers were played on swannee whistles, and that a clip of the episode was used in ‘Doctor Who’ – ‘The Sea Devils’ Part 1. Thanks Clive!

If you are in North America, you can tune in to BunnyEars.tv here to watch The Clangers in “The Rock Collector”.
By coincidence, the episode was first transmitted on the BBC almost exactly 39 years ago, on April 25th 1971 at 4.50pm. We hope you enjoy!

What’s on BunnyEars.tv, week of February 24, 2010

the mouse mill

This week's bedtime episode: "The Mouse MIll"

Here’s what’s on BunnyEars.tv for the Wednesday-through-Wednesday period starting February 24, 2010.

Our four daytime episodes, as well as our old country, old school bedtime program are all available 24 hours a day.

Daytime Lineup

Chapi Chapo in “The Dog”: Chapi and pal Chapo live in a futuristic, mod world of plexiglas blocks within which are many surprises. In this episode, Chapi and Chapo find a purple daschund and have to learn to treat it nicely.

Munk & Lemmy in “The Rodent”: This is very funny stuff. My favourite part of this episode involves a snail race. There’s also a very hungry rodent, and a great deal of stop motion slapstick.

Dorothy in “The Kite”: Dorothy’s kite is lost but her parrot saves the day when he teaches Dorothy to fly.

The Clangers in ” Visiting Friends”: Tiny Clanger finds a way to visit her friend, the Iron Chicken but then has trouble getting home.

Bedtime

Bagpuss in “The Mouse Mill”: This week’s bedtime story features Bagpuss, a very sleepy striped toy cat, who wakes up only when a little girl named Emily brings him something strange to puzzle on. The Bagpuss episodes are truly koo koo for cocoa puffs. In “The Mouse Mill”, a small, mouse-operated mill is found, and low and behold, it takes butter beans and breadcrumbs and turn them into chocolate biscuits. Introduced by Hungary’s Bedtime Bear, this is a perfect way to wind down before a nap or bedtime.
